We would like to invite you to join ALiKC’s closed Facebook page and apologies for not embracing this forum sooner. ALiKC is delighted to have recently welcomed Geoff Carr as a new committee member and he has kindly agreed to handle the ALiKC Facebook page.
So whilst ALiKC has in the past attended CFSG meetings in London, we shall with Geoff’s help now have the capability of sharing more of this information through the ALiKC membership with the Facebook page. The most important changes to our industry in 40 years led us to join the Canine and Feline Sector Group (CFSG) alas we were not permitted to join as quickly as we would have liked but we now hold associate membership and do have the opportunity to influence the CFSG with your views so we need your support and this is the forum where you can help.
Geoff Carr attended his first meeting of the CFSG last Friday and can confirm that the guidelines are to be completely reviewed and rewritten by DEFRA in October this year. It is essential for this review that ALL members are involved providing evidence and examples of the problems we are facing with the new license.
It has been suggested by David Cavill of the CSFG that in light of this review any members being pushed to make changes by their local authority suggest that the L.A. that failing to wait for clarification of the guidelines may have consequences for the local authority. ALIKC are seeking legal advice on this stance.
We have established the closed forum on Facebook and all members are invited to join where they can access help and advice from fellow kennel and cattery owners. It is hoped that we will also have specialist lawyer available in the forum who will be able to assist when things get beyond friendly advice – hopefully she will be introduced properly in due course. The forum will form a path for ALIKC to communicate with our members to seek their involvement in the future of our industry and to advise and discuss future changes.
Aside from the serious business of getting the license right and general chitchat and advice it is also our hope to do something about unlicensed homeboarders who are springing up everywhere – we need your help to provide details so that ALIKC can put local authorities on the spot and demand action.
